German School

German school in Kitzbühel

The German school is in Kitzbühel in Austria close to the border of Bavaria, South Germany. It is a small, ancient town in the west Austrian province of Tyrol, the mountainous part of Austria. It is internationally famous because of the annual World Championship Downhill Ski Race. Kitzbühel is also host to the Austrian Tennis Open Championships. The town itself is therefore well served by trains, buses and roads, as well as being an attractive alpine town surrounded by mountains.

Kitzbühel is an hour's drive from Salzburg and Innsbruck, and about an hour and a half's drive from Munich.

The school is set in a leafy suburb of the town, a 15 minute walk from the centre. This is a convenient location, with some guest houses to accommodate students, supermarkets, a large sports equipment and clothing store, pubs, restaurants and a bank within 5 minutes walk. There are also tennis courts and a riding school within walking distance from the school.
There are bus stops all over the town, taking skiers to the slopes. Our nearest bus stop is a three minute walk from the school.

German Courses

Weekly Intensive German Course

Most people take courses between 2 and 4 weeks, but 1 or more than 4 weeks are also possible:We offer individual courses or small group courses

  • Tuition is 4 x 45 minute lessons for groups of 3-4/(seldom 5 or 6) students, from 9:00 in the morning to 12:15, Monday to Friday
  • Tuition is 3 x 45 minute lessons for groups of 2 students
  • Tuition is 2 x 45 minute lessons if the student is the only one of his/her standard

You can stay for as many weeks as you would like to, with a minimum of one week The course includes participation in the free time programme

Group size: usually classes of up to 4, very seldom up to 5/6 people per class.

This is a very intensive learning experience. You learn a lot faster in such a small group: compare this with learning in a class of between 10 and 20 people;

  • You participate more;
  • The challenge is greater;
  • You have more control over what you study and what topics or grammar points are discussed or studied;
  • You get more individual attention from your teacher;
  • You get to know your teacher better as well as your class mates, and there are many other advantages.

Standard of German: We have groups of every standard from absolute beginner to the very advanced. We ask everyone (except beginners) to take a short test on their first Monday morning so that we can put you in the right class for your standard.

If you are the only person of your particular standard, we do not cancel your course: instead, we offer you a course with full participation in the free time programme etc., but we reduce your lesson time to 2 lessons of 45 minutes per day. You effectively get private lessons at the group rate. The 3rd and 4th lesson you can be a listening guest in another class.

Lessons per week 20 Duration 1-4 weeks
Levels Beginner to Advanced Students per class Average 4, Maximum 6
Minutes per lesson 45 Minimum age 18
Timetable: 09:00 - 12:15 (including a break)

German Private Lessons

Some people prefer one to one tuition. This is available to students of all standards, and you can opt either to take private lessons in addition to the Weekly Intensive Group Course, or to have all your lessons on a private basis.

If you have special topics that you would like covered in your lessons, then you are of course free to ask for these. It would help us a lot if you could discuss these requirements in advance, so that we can ensure that your teacher is properly prepared for your lessons.

Accommodation

Pension Oberhauser

Pension Oberhauser

A lot of our students who return to do another course at the German school in Kitzbuhel specially request that they stay at the Pension Oberhauser. This is really a private house with 3 rooms each with a shower and TV. 2 WC in the corridor. There is a TV and a fridge in the breakfast room for the use of guests. Frau Oberhauser is always very friendly and welcoming. She doesn’t speak much English so you have to practise your German even at breakfast with her! This B&B is the nearest to the school, just crossing the street. There is limited internet connection in this house. The Alpenpizzeria (welan) where studentsoften go for lunch or dinner, is a 3 minute walk away.

Pension EnstrasserPension Enstrasser

Another favourite place for our students is the Pension Entstrasser, slightly further down the road, 4-5 minutes from the school. This is a much bigger house with 40 beds, a swimming pool and sauna. Every room has an en suite bathroom, a balcony, TV, radio, phone and wireless access to the internet. Breakfast buffet. The Alpenpizzeria (internet) where students often go for lunch or dinner, is a stone’s throw from the Entstrasser.

Leisure

Learn German in the Mountains!

Come and see the amazing scenery in this region. Bring a camera and relax.

Swimming in the natural lake, the Schwarzsee, is a very special Kitzbühel experience. The mountains are beautiful at any time of year. There is plenty to photograph!
Hiking is great too, town visits, and golf, golf, golf! If you're a golfer and want to combine learning German with playing golf then have a look at the golf courses in Kitzbühel and Tyrol - there are a lot to choose from! See www.kitzbuehel-golf.com
This is an area of outstanding natural beauty and the mountain walks and the natural lakes are spectacularly beautiful.
You can also visit the historic towns of Innsbruck, Salzburg and and other places of interest. These cultural excursions are quite popular amongst not too few of our students.

We encourage our students to speak German also during their free time and beginners to use their new language skills.

Learn German and Ski

What do we do in the winter? Skiing! What else? Well, there are also things like snowboarding, cross country skiing, ice skating, indoor tennis, climbing in the hall, amazing winter landscape photography, wellness hotel pampering, aprés ski...
Nowadays we can normally ski from mid Oct. already until the beginning of May, but this is obviously dependent on snow conditions. To get an update on snow and which lifts are operating, look at the Kitzbühel Bergbahn's website at www.bergbahn-kitzbuehel.at
Students usually agree in the coffee break between morning lessons where they will ski, based on the weather conditions, snow conditions and experience of the group.
The school is a 3-4 minute walk from the nearest ski bus stop, and students normally fix a time to meet there before setting off together for the slopes. Hans, the school's director, knows the mountains very well. He advises on the best places to ski.
