The German school in Vienna is centrally located in Vienna’s embassy district, opposite “Schloss Belvedere”. The city centre (Stephansplatz) is only 15 minutes away. It is a modern school with 6 bright, welcoming, tastefully furnished classrooms in a typically Viennese Art Nouveau building. Facilities include a multimedia library with 17 computers and free Wi-Fi access. Students are able to borrow German newspapers, magazines, DVD’s and CD’s at the school to help their language learning. There is a student lounge with coffee, cold beverages and snacks. The school is air-conditioned and students have Wi-fi access throughout the building.

During the busier months the school also uses 10-15 additional classrooms in a building next to the school. The school has its own Student Residence just 15 minutes from the school. German teachers are all qualified to teach German as a foreign language.

German Courses

Minimum age: 18 years

Standard course

This short term course is suitable for students that want a general German course focusing on the four key language skills: speaking, reading, writing and listening. Suitable for students with previous knowledge of German or complete beginners that have a short time to spend learning the language abroad.

Intensive course

This course is as the standard course but with 10 extra German lessons per week in a mini group of no more than 8 students per class. Ideal for students that want an Intensive short term course.

Private tuition

20, 25 or 30 private lessons per week. Lessons can be tailored to the needs and requirements of the students, to a particular subject or focusing on a specific exam. Students can have private lessons on a 2 to 1 basis providing they are of a similar ability.

German & Music course

Students follow the Standard German course (20 lessons) or the Intensive course (30 lessons) and have 1 music lesson a week. Music instruction takes place at the Vienna Conservatory which is about 20 minutes from the school. .
Practical music lessons:You receive one individual instrumental or vocal lesson per week.
Theoretical music lessons:One theoretical subject per week, such as history of music, music composition, acoustics, instrumental music tuition.
Practise facilities: Information on rehearsal rooms in Vienna is available at the school. (approx. EUR 2,5 to EUR 7 per hour).
Theoretical lessons may be cancelled without substitution during exam periods in January, June and September.

Accommodation

Host Family

Accommodation in a host family is definitely the best way of practising your German and getting to know Austria and its people outside of the classroom. Host families can be childless couples, parents with schoolchildren or older people whose grown-up children have already left home. You may choose from use of the kitchen, substantial breakfast only or half-board with a three-course lunch or evening meal. You have your own single or twin room. You share the bathroom and the kitchen with your host family.

Student Residence

20 modern Standard and Superior Apartments offer you recreation and contact with other students - only 10 to 15 minutes from the language school and Vienna's city centre.

Thanks to the ideal location and great infrastructure of the typical Viennese Art Nouveau building you are in the perfect starting point for successful studying and exciting tours with your international friends in modern Vienna, not far from popular grocery stores, gyms, bars and restaurants. All apartments are non-smoker!

There are two categories of apartment:

Standard Apartments

You live in a single or twin room with other students in an apartment (60-75 m2) with Sat TV, radio, free WLAN/WI-FI. 2-5 students share a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom and toilet. Rooms are cleaned twice a week.

Service:
• Rooms cleaned Monday through Friday
• Bed linen and towels provided

Meals

The apartments feature a fully equipped kitchen with fridge, cooking facilities, crockery and cutlery, perfect for preparing your own food in a private atmosphere. You can also book breakfast or half-board. Our breakfast buffet features freshly-baked rolls, croissants, bacon, cheese, fruits, yoghurt and muesli. If you opt for half-board, lunch is available in a nice restaurant close to the school.

Shared Apartments

You are accommodated in a well-maintained flat, often shared with other students. The use of the kitchen is included in the price. The flat contains all the usual utensils and crockery. Single or double room with shared bathroom and kitchen. Most flats are also equipped with their own washing machine and TV.

Transfer

A transfer service from Vienna airport or station to your accommodation is available at an extra cost. Alternatively we can provide you with advice on travel.

Information

First Day of School

We expect all students in school at 08:30 am on Monday for the registration and the allocation to courses.

Public transport to the school:

Schnellbahn (suburban rail network): station "Rennweg" (S1, 2, 3, 7)
U-Bahn (underground) U4/U3: station "Landstraßer Hauptstraße" and then tram "O" to: station "Rennweg"
U-Bahn (underground) U1, U2, U4: station "Karlsplatz" and then tram "71" to station "Rennweg"

Assessment test:
We need to receive your assessment test at the very latest on Tuesday before classes begin, otherwise you might miss Monday's class.

Your first day of class:

Please bring your passport, a copy of your confirmation of payment and the voucher.
You will receive books and other teaching material at school during your entire stay. We recommend bringing a dictionary.
You are informed of your exact schedule on the first day of your course. You have lessons either in the morning or afternoon, depending on your course level.

Activities

The school's packed activity programme and special interest classes will present a diverse view of Vienna, Austrian culture and German language. (5 cultural activity lessons per week are included in the price of your German course). The cultural and special interest programme is held in German.

Citizens of EU member states (incl. new EU members, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Norway and Switzerland)

Citizens of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Macedonia and Montenegro are able to enter Austria without a visa, if they have the new EU-passport (biometric passport).

Entry to Austria with a Visa

Important!
You can only apply for or extend a visa from your home country.
You cannot extend a visa while in Austria.
You cannot apply for a residence permit after you have entered the country without a visa (if you didn't need one) or after entering on a tourist visa C. Exceptions include US citizens among others.
Visa applications should be submitted at least 6 weeks before departure. Account for more time before and during the summer months.
Residence permits should be applied for at least 2-3 months before departure

VISA C
- Schengen visa up to 3 months.
For German courses Visa C is issued for the exact duration (max. 90 days per 6 months) of the booked and payed for course.
Schengen VISA Information

VISA D
- issued to students and language course students in Austria for a duration of max. 3-6 months.
Prices: (payable at the embassy) ca. EUR 100.-

Documents required for Visa C and D:

Complete & signed application form(s)
Passfoto gemäß den ICAO-Kriterien (Farbe, 35x45mm)
Valid passport (at least two empty pages; not older than 10 years; valid for at least another 3 months) as well as a photocopy of the passport
Letter of invitation: course- and accommodation confirmation or student confirmation
Proof for means of travel (reservation or ticket)
Travel-, health- and accident insurance (min. coverage: EUR 30,000.-)
Proof of sufficient financial means
Certificate of employment
Certified/Authenticated letter of authority from legal guardians of minors travelling alone.

RESIDENCE PERMIT – STUDENTS (RP)
For stays exceeding 180 days (6 months)

To be issued the "Residence Permit – Students" a letter of acceptance from one of these institutions is required:

University/Technical College/Accredited private university
College of Education or an accredited private degree programme
For legal entry into Austria, an application for a national Visa D and for a residence permit is required. This has to be applied for at the Austrian Embassy in your home country.
Initial application has to be submitted and issued in the respective home country, before entry into Austria
The RP has to be picked up in person at the municipal department for immigration & citizenship (MA35) in Vienna.
In case no letter of acceptance can be submitted, only a Visa D for max. 6 months can be issued. After its expiration it is possible to apply for a “Residence Permit – Students” in the home country, provided that the letter of acceptance can be submitted.

INVITATION LETTER
Pay the total amount for the course and accommodation. The school will then send you a course confirmation.
Visa support fee: EUR 100.-
Should you need the original confirmation and the visa invitation letter from the school, we can send you the documents by express curier. (DHL-Express: EUR 75.-)
Upon receiving your payment, we will send you your voucher (booking details & confirmation)
In case the visa application is declined we will refund the paid fee excl. an administration fee of EUR 198.- until 4 working days prior to arrival (only if confirmation of embassy can be submitted). After that, our cancellation policy applies.
